The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has reported that sports betting revenues rose by nearly 45% compared to the same month last year.

The total sports betting handle for September reached over $811.2 million, marking an increase from approximately $726.3 million in September 2023. This growth can largely be attributed to the dominance of online betting, which accounted for a substantial portion of the overall handle. With online sportsbooks generating over $765.4 million in wagers.

The shift towards online betting has transformed the gambling landscape in Pennsylvania. While retail sportsbooks still contribute to the overall figures, the overwhelming majority of wagers are now placed online.

Among the various online sportsbooks operating in Pennsylvania, FanDuel has emerged as a frontrunner. Partnered with Valley Forge Casino, FanDuel’s online operations alone accounted for over $316.8 million in wagers.

While FanDuel leads the pack, other operators also contribute to the competitive landscape. DraftKings, BetRivers, and Caesars have established themselves as key players.

FanDuel’s dominance in Pennsylvania’s sports betting market is underscored by its revenue contributions. The platform, in conjunction with Valley Forge Casino, generated over $27.3 million in revenue, representing more than 51% of the total monthly sports betting revenue in the state.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board collects taxes at a rate of 34% on sports betting revenue, with the state benefiting significantly from FanDuel’s success, collecting over $9.3 million in taxes from the platform’s operations alone. T

While FanDuel leads the market, other operators also made significant contributions to the overall sports betting handle in September. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, in partnership with DraftKings, reported a handle of $237.2 million, generating $13.1 million in revenue.
