We had the pleasure of interviewing Gambling Talk to hear their insights on the iGaming industry and their perspective on Global Game Connect 2026. We asked them a few key questions about market trends, industry challenges, and the future of gaming. Here are some of their thoughtful responses, offering valuable perspectives for our global community.
Q1: With regulatory environments constantly changing across different countries, what challenges and opportunities does this create for iGaming companies?
A1: Gambling Talk closely monitors the evolution of the regulatory framework across Africa, and it is evident that its constant changes often lack rational regulatory factors and instead create serious challenges for companies operating in the gambling and sports-betting industry:
-Each African country follows its own approach to licensing, taxation, and legal compliance. Operators and suppliers must constantly adapt to these conditions to remain compliant.
-Meeting updated requirements and adapting technology frequently require significant financial investment from operators and suppliers, which in turn fuels the growth of the black market.
-Frequent legislative changes—often without clear economic justification—significantly slow down investment by well-known international brands interested in entering African markets.
Despite these hurdles, Africa remains one of the fastest-growing regions in terms of mobile penetration, internet access, and a young population driven by entertainment. Gambling Talk believes that for the gambling industry to develop in a balanced and dynamic way—benefiting both governments and businesses—regulatory authorities must maintain an open, ongoing dialogue with companies that wish to operate honestly and responsibly.
Q2: As globalization drives cross-border collaboration and market expansion, which regions or markets do you think will become the next breakthrough hotspots, and why?
A2: The next “breakthrough hotspots” will be countries that actively develop mobile networks and maintain high standards for 4G and 5G connectivity. This trend is especially relevant for Africa, which could become one of the most dynamic regions in the coming years. For example, markets such as Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda combine steady growth in global mobile penetration, large young populations, and, as a result, a significant increase in smartphone use—factors that drive greater access to and interest in sports betting and online gaming. Given all these factors, the African continent offers opportunities to create new and exciting projects for both global operators and suppliers as well as emerging local brands.
Q3: With mobile and multi-platform experiences becoming mainstream, how do you think this will change player behavior and reshape market competition?
A3: African youth are already active users of online gaming services, primarily via smartphones. As mobile internet access expands and content providers offer games adapted to local languages, themes, and player preferences, gambling will spread even further and player engagement will deepen. Companies able to deliver seamless, lightweight mobile platforms with low data consumption will gain a strong competitive advantage in African markets.
Q4: Why did you choose to become a media partner for GGC 2026, and what do you hope to gain from this collaboration?
A4: Gambling Talk’s mission is to showcase the African continent’s potential as one of the world’s most rapidly developing regions in the global gambling industry. Becoming a media partner of GGC 2026 is a natural step on this path. For Gambling Talk, this partnership represents another channel to position Africa as a central player in the global gaming ecosystem.
Q5: Through your partnership with GGC, what key messages or industry trends do you hope to convey to the community and your readers/followers/viewers?
A5: Gambling Talk views its partnership with GGC as an opportunity to highlight the key trends shaping the future of the gambling industry both worldwide and in Africa specifically. By communicating these trends to our readers and subscribers, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the unique dynamics of the African market and to position the region as an essential part of the global gaming industry.
