November hack attack

Rivers Casino Philadelphia has recently revealed details of a data hack it suffered in November that may have exposed customers’ personal data.

data breach has attracted lawsuits from affected patrons

According to multiple news outlets on Wednesday, the data breach has attracted lawsuits from affected patrons of the casino owned by Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming.

According to Rush Street spokesperson Jack Horner, Rivers management at the Fishtown casino discovered that “an unauthorized actor accessed and/or took certain files stored on our computer servers.”

Horner added that his firm was mailing letters to people whose information may have been exposed.

Suits rush in

According to media reports, a suit filed by a Philadelphia law firm on Tuesday states Rush Street notified Rivers casino customers of the November 18 data breach “sometime around December 30, 2024.”

The suit filed on behalf of a Philadelphia resident states the bad actors could have accessed patrons’ social security numbers “and/or bank information used for direct deposit.”

A high-profile New York consumer advocacy law firm is also on Rivers’ case. On Monday, Levi & Korsinsky LLP issued a statement saying its “attorneys are investigating whether impacted individuals may be entitled to financial compensation through a class-action lawsuit.”

CBS News quotes Rivers as stating it was unsure of how “many patrons were affected, but are contacting all those who are affected and offering them one year of free credit monitoring.”

Second victim

While Rush Street owns and operates just six casinos across the US under its Rivers brand, its Philadelphia operation isn’t alone in suffering a data breach.

Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Illinois was victimized by a data breach in 2023 that exposed personal information of customers, digital sportsbook users, and employees.

At the time, Rivers offered affected customers a free year of credit card fraud alerts.
