The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is facing legal action from former GVC Holdings CEO Kenneth Alexander for allegedly leaking some of his private information. Alexander was heading up a group of investors who tried to take over management of 888 Holdings (now Evoke) during the summer of 2023 when the UKGC intervened.

Alexander and several of his fellow executives at GVC Holdings, now Entain, were embroiled in an investigation regarding historic bribery in Turkey that led to the company paying a £585m ($722m) fine. The regulator began a review of 888’s license after news broke of the potential management takeover, revealing some details of the active case.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit believe that the UKGC broke confidentiality and their privacy rights regarding ongoing investigations. They say they never got a chance to directly fight their corner before the public learned of their involvement in 888 through the company’s regulatory filing and a UKGC press release.

Alexander and Lee Feldman, the former GVC chairman, claim the UKGC’s actions resulted in “unquantifiable financial and reputational harm.” They want an injunction against future disclosures and damages.
