Nevada’s state’s gaming in December collectively generated £1.4 billion in revenue, breaking the previous monthly record set in July 2023. This represents a 10.5% increase compared to December 2023.
The Las Vegas Strip played a pivotal role in the record-breaking month, casinos raked in £814 million, marking the second-highest monthly win ever recorded for the Strip. This figure falls just short of the all-time high of £822 million set in July 2023.
While the Strip dominated headlines, other areas of Las Vegas also contributed significantly to the December success. Downtown Las Vegas casinos reported a solid £84 million in winnings, representing a 6.5% increase from the previous year. Local markets, including North Las Vegas and the Boulder Strip area, also saw notable gains, with revenues up by 8% and 7% respectively.
Breaking down the revenue sources, table games emerged as the star performers in December. Baccarat, in particular, saw a substantial uptick, with winnings increasing by 18% compared to the same month in 2023. Slot machines, while still a crucial component of casino revenues, experienced more modest growth, with a 5% year-on-year increase.
Breaking the £14 Billion Barrier
The exceptional December capped off an extraordinary year for Nevada’s casino industry. For the first time in history, the state’s casinos collectively surpassed the £14 billion mark in annual gaming revenue. This milestone represents a 4.5% increase from the previous record set in 2023.
While December’s performance was particularly noteworthy, the success story of 2024 was characterised by consistent growth throughout the year. Month after month, casinos across Nevada reported strong figures, with only two months showing slight year-on-year declines.
The Las Vegas Strip remained the powerhouse of Nevada’s casino industry in 2024, contributing over 55% of the state’s total gaming revenue. With annual winnings exceeding £7.8 billion, the Strip not only maintained its dominance but also expanded its market share compared to previous years.
Sports betting emerged as a significant growth driver in 2024, with Nevada sportsbooks handling a record £8.5 billion in wagers throughout the year. This represents a 12% increase from 2023.
